Mission

Public Information

The mission of the City's Public Information Office is to communicate information to the public to increase awareness of City services, accomplishments and critical issues, as well as improve the City's image by marketing its quality of life.

Objectives

Establish and maintain effective relationships with local media by responding to reporter's inquiries, writing and distributing well-written and accurate news releases, and planning news conferences as needed. Utilize Vida newspaper to publish "City News" on a bi-monthly basis.

Serve as the City's spokesperson when responding to the media. The Public Information Officer (PIO) is often quoted in the Ventura County Star, Los Angeles Times - Ventura County Edition, Vida News and other publications. The PIO is regularly interviewed on KVTA News (AM 1520), Impact News (Adelphia Cable) and KEYT-TV News.

Coordinate special media events to bring positive attention to the City of Oxnard, including groundbreakings, grand openings, ribbon cuttings, unveiling's and public demonstrations.

Establish and maintain an active City of Oxnard Speakers Bureau Program to increase awareness of City programs and services. Create a brochure featuring volunteer City speakers to be distributed annually to community service organizations.

Conduct a community survey every third year to evaluate the City's performance and customer service to its residents. The results will also be used as a barometer of public opinion on important issues for City Council and administrative staff in determining priorities for the future.
