On Monday, August 16, at 6:00 p.m., the Oxnard Public Library will host Dr. Marie Francois, Program Chair of the History Department at California State University Channel Islands, who will give a fascinating presentation on the remarkable Culture of the Aztec.
Dr. Francois will discuss Aztec history with the main emphasis being on their rise to power in the 14th century. The audience will learn about Aztec imperial vision, social structure, expansionism, and the resistance they encountered from other tribes. She will also discuss some paradoxes such as their creative artistic, social, and intellectual development existing alongside a brutal policy of war tied to a bloodthirsty religion.

Dr. Marie Francois earned her Ph.D. in Latin American History from the University of Arizona, a certificate in Women's Studies from El Colegio de México, an M.A. in Comparative History from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and a B.A. in History and Latin American Studies from the University of Virginia.
